Rich began his impressive softball career growing up in the Walnut Park area of North St Louis where he played and coached The Bears, a team out of Wesley House where he coached and mentored local youths, many of whom were fatherless, to keep them out of trouble. Over the years Rich worked his way to the pinnacle of local fast pitch softball as a coach and manager of some of the greatest teams in St Louis history, including The St Louis Browns. Not only did he coach both men’s and women’s teams, but he also served the sport as an umpire. Sadly, Rich passed away in 1995. His daughter, Lisa and his son, David accepted the award for their father.
